Welcome to the Hudson Valley Biodiesel Cooperative!
The first HVBC biodiesel processor (in Cottekill, NY) began producing around Memorial Day 2005. Through September group members produced 500 gallons or so for about 80 cents per gallon.
Biodiesel is available to HVBC Members. Members pay a buy-in fee to offset the, approximately $600, cost to build the processor.
$40 for "Working" Members $10 for "Non-Working" Members Working members buy fuel for $1.00 per gallon. Non-Working members pay $2.00 per gallon. Participation is FREE!
Biodiesel can be used in any diesel engine or distillate system (i.e. home oil heater). Usually up to 20% B20 in home heating systems; any mixture, up to 100% pure (neat) B100 is used in diesel engines. B35 (35% biodiesel) or less is a preferred winter blend.
Biodiesel has to be something you want to do. There is a payback; for "non-workers" itīs small (maybe $10-$100 per month).
For "working," producing members, payback could mean a savings equal to $15-$20 per hour of time. Work 10 Hours/Month, save $150. Work more – save more!
Biodiesel is an "energy" garden. But, like a vegetable garden, you have to want to work it.
If you are looking to advocate an exceptional alternative for transportation or home heating fuel - biodiesel is a great option (or compliment) to farmers or homesteaders, or anyone with off-grid interests.
